The War of Dwarves and Orcs was, as its name implies, not a battle, but a war. It was fought in 2793 through 2799 of the Third Age, between, obviously, the Dwarves, primarily of Khazad-Dûm and the Orcs of the Misty Mountains. Thrór was slain by the Orcs of Moria, and thus the Dwarves sought revenge by raiding every Orc-hole they would find. They searched for Azog, who was the Orc who murdered Thrór. The war ended in 2799 with the Battle of Azanulbizbar, where most of the Orcs, and many Dwarves, of the Misty Mountains were slain. Some Orcs fled through Rohan and into the Ered Nimrais, but only about eighty years later were killed.
