Théoden was a Man and the seventeenth king of Rohan. Because of the evil spells of Saruman, worked through the words of Wormtongue, the King's counsellor, Théoden became a wretched old man, but was healed in 3019 by Gandalf. He then rode over Rohan much, and was present in the Battle of the Hornburg and at the Downfall of Orthanc. He actually fought at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, though he was slain there by the Ringwraith King.
