The Battle of the Pelennor Fields

The Battle of the Pelennor Fields was the greatest battle of all of the Third Age, fought between Orcs, Easterlings, and other Evil Men, led by the Lord of the Nazgûl on one side, and upon the other side the soldiers of Minas Tirith and Dol Amroth, with a few other Gondor Men, and the Rohirrim. Before dawn on the first day of light after days of darkness the Lord of the Nazgûl broke the gates of Minas Tirith, but was prevented by from entering because of the unexpected arrival of the Rohirrim, who slew many Orcs and Evil Men before the Lord of the Nazgûl slew Théoden. The Lord of the Nazgûl was, however, slain as well by Merry and Éowyn.

Éomer led the Rohirrim for the rest of the battle, and by mid-morning he was attempting to stop the Haradrim, or Southrons, from advancing, but the oliphaunts of the Haradrim could not be slain. The soldiers of Minas Tirith were then forced back into the city, and the Rohirrim surrounded far away from rescue, but at that moment Aragorn arrived with a large force from southern Gondor, and by the end of the day the field was free of both Orc and Evil Man.
